Russia and Kazakhstan face foot-and-mouth threat

A series of major outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) has been registered in the territory of the Customs Union in the first weeks of June. Three outbreaks were detected in the East Kazakhstan Oblast of Kazakhstan and one in the Karachay-Cherkessia republic of Russia. According to preliminary data, more than 4,000 head of cattle have to be destroyed as a result of these outbreaks.
