Latest Ebola outbreak over in Liberia; West Africa is at zero, but new flare-ups are likely to occur

LIBERIA Today, WHO declares the end of the most recent outbreak of Ebola virus disease in Liberia and says all known chains of transmission have been stopped in West Africa. But the Organization says the job is not over, more flare-ups are expected and that strong surveillance and response systems will be critical in the months to come.

Thai firm in major Russian poultry acquisition

Thailand-based company Charoen Pokphand Foods (CPF) is to invest US$680 million in the purchase of two major poultry farms in the Leningrad Oblast of Russia, according to an official company report. The deal includes the Severnayay and Voiskovitsy farms, which jointly produce 180,000 tonnes (t) of poultry per year.

South Korea reports 110 H5N8 outbreaks affecting 3 million poultry

South Korea today reported 110 outbreaks of H5N8 avian flu affecting more than 3 million poultry, with some events dating back to last fall, according to a report posted by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).

Germany, Taiwan, Vietnam report avian flu outbreaks
CIDRAP NEWS, Monday 27 July 2015

Avian influenza caused by various strains struck poultry farms and backyard birds in Germany, Taiwan, and Vietnam over the past few days, according to reports to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). Germany's outbreak involves the highly pathogenic H7N7 strain, which earlier this month struck commercial chicken and turkey farms in the English county of Lancashire.
